Everything You Need To Know About Getting A Dental Crown
At Integrity Dental, there are a number of treatments we perform on a daily basis. Aside from a filling, one of the most common dental treatments is a dental crown. If you have never needed this treatment before, it can be a little intimidating when you don’t know what to expect. We want to share a little more about this common treatment because there may come a day when you or a loved one may need it. We want you to be comfortable scheduling your appointment as soon as we recommend the need for treatment.
What is a Dental Crown?
A dental crown is a tooth-colored cap that is placed over a damaged, decayed, or cracked tooth to protect it from further damage. It can also be used to complete more involved dental treatments, such as dental implants and root canals, and to help hold a dental bridge in place. Dental crowns are popular because they closely resemble your natural teeth. We are able to color match the tooth structure to your existing teeth. We may recommend a dental crown to:
- Cover a tooth that is misshapen or severely discolored
- Replace a tooth with a large filling
- Add strength to a tooth with little structure remaining
- Fix a cracked tooth
Procedure for Dental Crowns
It is important to mention that the treatment process for dental crowns requires more than one visit to our office. During the first visit, we remove the decay and take an impression of the tooth. The patient will leave the office with a temporary crown. In about two weeks, the patient will return to test the permanent crown and ensure there is a proper fit. If the crown meets our standards, we will place it in your mouth permanently.
If we recommended a dental crown during a prior visit or you are interested in learning how a dental crown may improve your oral health, we encourage you to call our office, which is located in Wellington, FL, to schedule an appointment. Delaying a needed treatment can result in more extensive treatments and additional costs. We want to help get your oral health back on track.
