Signs You May Have Problems With Your Oral Health
We know that our patients would love to have ideal oral health, but unfortunately, that is not always the case. Thankfully, our teeth often give us signs that we are experiencing a problem. We may notice a problem, such as:
Sensitive Teeth
If you constantly experience tooth sensitivity, you may be suffering from problems with your tooth enamel. Tooth enamel is the outer covering of the tooth, and it can become damaged from decay, clenching, and grinding if the teeth are used to chew or bite non-food items or if the teeth are used as tools. When the enamel becomes damaged, the nerves on the inside of the teeth are closer to being exposed and become extremely sensitive.
Receding Gums
If you notice your gums are pulling away from the teeth, then you are experiencing receding gums. When gums begin to recede, more of the front surface of the tooth is exposed, as well as possibly the tooth root. Receding gums makes it much easier for bacteria and plaque to build up and cause a problem with your oral health. One of the main symptoms associated with receding gums is gum disease. This is a common condition that affects more than half of American adults.
Mouth Sores
A mouth sore develops when the soft tissue inside the mouth is irritated or damaged. It commonly occurs if you bite on the side of your cheek, lip, or tongue. The average sore lasts for one to two weeks; however, if you have a sore that does not seem to be healing, it can be an indication of oral cancer.
Bad Breath
Everyone experiences bad breath from time to time. It is typically remedied by brushing and flossing your teeth. Recurring bad breath is a sign that you are experiencing a problem with your oral health. Bad breath can indicate that you may be experiencing decay or gum disease.
If you experience any of the problems mentioned above or notice any changes with your oral health, we encourage you to contact our office, which is located in Wellington, FL, as soon as possible to schedule an appointment. We can evaluate the problem and recommend a treatment if necessary.
