Ways To Relax To Get The Dental Treatment You Need
Have you avoided visiting our office for a needed treatment or hygiene examination due to nervous feelings or fear of the dentist? If so, you are not alone. A large percentage of adults in America experience some form of anxiety before visiting the dentist. Some adults experience such severe anxiety that they have not visited the dentist in many years. At Integrity Dental, we believe in creating a comfortable and welcoming environment for our patients to receive the exceptional dental care they need. We encourage patients to be honest about their feelings so we can help them get the dental care they need in a way that works for their needs.
Relaxation Methods to Try
If you have mild anxiety, there are self-relaxation methods you can implement before visiting our office. We suggest scheduling your appointment during a time that is not stressful, so an appointment following a long day of work isn’t ideal. It is also best to avoid caffeinated beverages that can raise your blood pressure and heart rate. Try drinking a relaxing chamomile tea in place of something with caffeine. Listen to soothing music on your drive to your appointment and feel free to bring headphones to listen to your favorite music, podcast, or audio book.
Sedation Dentistry
For patients with more severe anxiety or phobias about the dentist, we recommend learning more about the sedation dentistry we offer. Sedation dentistry uses medication to help patients relax during treatment. We offer nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, to patients with more mild symptoms. Patients with more severe anxiety benefit from oral sedation. This method requires a pill to be taken approximately an hour before the start of treatment.
The start of the new year is the perfect time to step out of your comfort zone and ask for help to get the dental care you need. Avoiding dental care can lead to additional and lengthy treatments, which is not ideal for a patient with anxiety. Contact our office located in Wellington, FL today to schedule an appointment. We hope to see you soon!
