Do You Celebrate National Flossing Day?
Typically, the day after Thanksgiving is one of the biggest shopping days of the year. At Integrity Dental, we are not interested in retail sales, because we are too busy celebrating National Flossing Day. Established in 2000, National Flossing Day was created to raise awareness about the importance of flossing to maintain healthy teeth and gums.
Why Do We Need to Floss?
For years, you have known about the importance of brushing your teeth twice a day, but are you aware that you should be flossing every day as well? Not flossing daily can lead to significant problems with your oral health. We want to share some important reasons why flossing is just as important as brushing your teeth:
Preventing Bad Breath
When food and bacteria linger between the teeth and are not removed properly, it can cause problems with bad breath. Think about how food that is left sitting out will begin to have an odor.
Preventing Tooth Decay
When food lingers on the teeth, the acids in it will eat away at your tooth enamel. This leads to decay. To help prevent this from happening, we recommend patients not only brush but floss as well.
Preventing Gum Disease
Gum disease can develop when there is a buildup of bacteria and plaque between the teeth and along the gumline. Routine flossing promotes healthy gums.
We are happy to help you and your loved ones with your flossing technique if you feel you need assistance.
